Incandescent LED Bulb
I think this is a stroke of genius. 80% energy saving alternative to the traditional 60Watt incandescent household light bulb. Semantically genius in its aesthetic, and an awesome step forward in the energy saving product market! I particularly like the lower (or upper when fitted) heat sink section of the bulb which I assume doubles as a grip for removing/replacing the bulb as well as an...

Pulp
Liking this pulp table. There is something visually appealing to me about this material even though it is no doubt associated with expendable products such as packaging, maybe it’s the rugged ‘recycled’ texture?

Slum City
Olusosun landfill site: a pretty depressing yet at the same time incredible image of a woman carrying mangoes on her head, descending into Africas largest landfill site, the Olusosun. Colleagues at work were discussing a 3 part series on Nigeria which included an insight into life in a slum. Its amazing that people survive here by selling the scrap that surrounds them!

Plastic Island
Interesting to see that someone has finally thought of turning all the waste plastic floating in the ocean into a colourful island. A group of architects from the Netherlands have come up with the genius concept, creating a space for refugees to live a completely self sustained life!?

Constantin Grcic: Interview
An interesting article on the renowed German industrial designer Konstantin Grcic I found today whilst trawling design blogs at work. http://www.abitare.it/highlights/intervista-a-kostantin-grcic/ I thought it was worth highlighting; I went to talk at the V&A, in conversation with Alice Rawsthorn, and in all honesty was not over impressed by his justification for everyday objects in an...

DIY CNC
The DIYLILCNC an open-source set of plans to make a fully functional CNC mill for around $700 (that’s about £419.49 in real money)! Created by two Chicago based artists, it’s a pretty incredible project to undertake and a fantastic opportunity for perhaps smaller businesses or creative students to access computer controlled prototyping facilities. Certainly something to consider for...

Form via Function
I’m taking a trip to Deutschland soon, and plan to partake in a pilgrimage to the design mecca - The Bauhaus. Not the museum in Berlin, the actual Bauhaus where the much talked about design modernism movement came about in the early 20th century. Fortunately for me, a kind soul has already organised my day trip from Berlin for me, with this handy guide to the small town. Click the jump...

Mixed Gear...
As the fixed gear generation dwindles to a skidding hault, there’s no school like the old school, and I think it’s beauties like this which will dominate the city streets next! The dutch cruiser and retro ‘sit-up-and-beg’ style touring bikes of yesteryear are the new cool. I noticed one of these, a 1973 Raleigh Traveller, locked up in a small park near where I work in...

2012 Icons
Liking the 2012 London Olympics Icons……the horizontal and vertical construction-esc lines pulling away from various limbs, heads and apparatus works well for some reason, giving each organic humanoid shape a more constrained invisible rectangular frame……cyan and magenta is classic but contemporary use of colour, the B&W’s look good too!

Then let them eat bananas.
Sagmeisters wall of Bananas (and glue otherwise there wouldn’t be a wall). I don’t know why I like this but I do…. As timed past the green bananas became more ripe and turned yellow, thus turning the wall completely yellow concealing the txt. As further time past the already ripe yellow bananas turned brown and the txt appeared again. ZING! I don’t know whether it was...

So, tunnel party’s…..never knew they existed, but they do, check it out….If your local fashionista hang-outs aren’t scene enough, maybe there’s a tunnel near you that rocks! I recollect a mates mates mate suggesting I attend said event at the Thames Foot Tunnel running from Cutty Sark Gardens to Island Gardens (Isle of Dogs) one evening last year. Incidentally,...

Yo …..and hello if you’re reading this and I don’t know you……or if I know you for that matter. I figured I’d start a blog, I don’t know why? I can’t think of a reason other than it’s ‘so now’……..maybe I thought it would be an opportunity for me to make a virtual note of what makes me want to get up in morning? Things...
